Ironstone ware, or most commonly called just ironstone, is a type of vitreous pottery first made in the United Kingdom in the early 19th century. It was developed by potters in Staffordshire, England as a cheaper, hard-wearing  alternative to porcelain.

 

This is a lovely ironstone tureen, decorated with the popular cobalt blue and burnt sienna colours of the second half of the Victorion period. 

 

Condition is very good with no cracks or chips.
