Victorian Book Shaped Box

This is a mahogany box, probably for stationery which is made in the shape of a book. The lid is beautifully inlaid with bands of exotic woods, and a brass shield plaque in the centre of the lid, ready to recieve an inscription or monagram. It has an ornate brass escutcheon, and is complete with its original key. Inside the box there is a lidded compartment to keep pen nibs etc. This would have been in a relatively wealthy household.
 
Condition is very good with no cracks or repairs to the wood, there are a couple of very faint marks on the lid, but this does not detract at all from such a lovely box.
