A Victorian Silver Plated Food Dome/Cloche

In the 18th and 19th centuries elaborate serving pieces were used in the dining rooms of wealthy households. Food would be brought from the kitchens by the staff and placed on buffet servers at the side of the doom, a butler or footman would then serve the food from the serving pieces. These pieces would come in all manner of materials and styles including silver, silver plated and porcelain.

This example is a silver plated food dome/cloche. It would be used to impressively present food at a dinner party.

This dome is quite worn and marked - as seen in the photos.

Dimensions: 31 cm by 24 cm and has a height of 20cm.
