These items would have been used in a Victorian household on a daily basis. Cooks would gather fresh herbs and spices and grind to a paste to flavour dishes. 

White pottery mortar with turned sycamore wood pestle. Made in England circa 1890. 

The mortar (Ironstone bowl) measures 18cm diameter at the rim, and 10cm high. The pestle is 19cm in length.
