Tankards were very common in taverns and alehouses. From the seventeenth century onwards, there was scarcely a household in Britain that did not possess some items of pewter: plates, bowls, tankards, spoons, candlesticks were just some of the everyday items made from pewter. Pewter tankards were used in public houses from the 17th century through to the 20th century.

 

This is a large Flagon /Tankard /Stien, made from pewter with a side handle and hinged lid decorated in fleur de lis.

 

In very good condition
