Late Victorian Ladies Paste and Mother of Pearl Hat Pin/Decoration
In 1880 the fashion changed and ladies skirts became narrower - this brought about the fashion for large brimmed hats. These hats needed to be secured in place and the long shafted hat pin was introduced.
This particular hat pin is made of a base metal with a steel pin. The top is claw set with paste and a panel of mother of pearl at its centre.
Small chip on the mother of pearl which is difficult to see.
Dimensions: 11cm long and the top measures 3cm in diameter.
