From the seventeenth century onwards, there was scarcely a household in Britain that did not possess some items of pewter: plates, bowls, tankards, spoons, candlesticks were just some of the everyday items made from pewter. Pewter tankards were used in public houses from the 17th century through to the 20th century.
 
This is a hand made pewter plate, and would have been in frequent use in a small dwelling or tavern in the Georgian period.
 
Pewter is a soft metal, so for an item of this age they would regularly have small dinges as seen in the photos. Thier are no splits or breaks
