An Early Victorian Ambrotype Photograph of an Elderly Gentleman

An Early Victorian Ambrotype Photograph of an Elderly Gentleman

SKU: RJ00314
£25.00Price

Daguerreotype was the first process of photography, invented in 1839, the image was produced on tin, and you have to angle the image at a 45 degrees in order to see the portrait, this gave these early photographs a ghostly quality to the image.

This is an image of a mature gentleman seated on a carved chair. Daguerreotypes and  the later ambrotypes were quite a costly thing to purchase in the 19th century, so would have been from a reasonably comfortable houseold.

In reasonable condition for its age, missing its folding cover as is often the case with these pictures.

Dimensions: 9cm x 8cm
