Victorian Cast Iron Smoothing Iron
This type of iron was very common and used in most households from around 1700 to 1900. It would have been heated up by the fire, and then used on the garments. The iron would then be picked up with a cloth to protect hands from the heat. The down side to these irons it that they would leave rust marks on clothes.
