Wicker hampers were used throughout the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century to store goods and linen. They were very popular in warehouses and stores as a way of transporting goods. Also used in the commercial laundries and the private laundry of a country house or large town house.

This is a large hamper in with steel fittings. It would be used in a commercial laundry or for moving goods and laundry around in a large country house.
 
The condition is good no breaks to the wicker and the hinged lid works well.
