Large Victorian Jug and Bowl
Before bathrooms were introduced into the home, the household would all do their ablutions in the bedroom. A large jug and bowl would be kept on, usually, a marble topped stand, and water would be poured from the jug into the large bowl and used to wash yourself morning and night.
This jug and bowl would have been at home in a reasonably wealthy household. It is typical in design of the last half of the 19th century, being decorated with flora and fauna, fashionable at this time. Made in Staffordshire and named Montrose.
The jug is in very good condition, but the bowl has some dame to the foot.
Dimensions: jug measures 35cm high and the bowl 40cm diameter x 15cm high
