Large Late Victorian Silver Plated Soup Ladle

During the Victorian and Edwardian era, dinner partys were a fashionable pasttime, ladies in society would compete with each other for the best dressed table, this brought about an increase in the manufacture of items to be used at the table. One of these things would be silver and silver plated cutlery to serve the food. All manner of tools were used, from asparagus tongs to ornate serving forks and spoons, of every size and shape.

 

This is a large silver plated soup ladle with beaded decoration to the edges of the handle. Ladles like these would be used in large country and town houses where the butler or footman would serve soup at the table to the diners. This could also have be used in hotels and restaraunts of the time.

 

The silver plate is in good condition apart from some very faint sctatches to the bowl, but in overall good condition.
