A stationery or letter rack was an important part of any desk throughout the 19th century and into the first half of the 20th century.
 
This is a good sized oak stationery rack, used on a desk to store envelopes and writing paper. This one would have been at home in a middle income family of the time. 
 
There are no splits or cracks to the wood. There are a few tiny marks on the wood, but is in overall good condition.
