A Late Victorian Cut Glass Lidded Bowl or Sweet Jar
During the 19th and 20th century, society ladies liked to entertain and this would call for all manor of decoration for the tea or dinner table. At this time, it was fashinable to have afternoon tea or high tea where elaborate desserts and fancies would be served from equally elaborate glass serving pieces.
This is a fine engraved lidded glass jar with a cut and faceted stem, which could be used for mantlepiece or shelf decoration when not in use. When required these jars would be filled with sweet delicacies enjoyed by society ladies when calling upon each other for afternoon tea.
In very good condition with no chips or cracks
