Absinthe was a popular drink in the 19th century. Traditional absinthe is made of anise, fennel and wormwood (a plant); various recipes add other herbs and flowers to the mix. The chemical that's taken all the blame for absinthe's hallucinogenic reputation is called thujone, which is a component of wormwood.

In order to make this drink you would need a cone-shaped glass and an absinthe spoon. A measure of absinthe was poured into the glass and the slotted spoon rested on top of the glass, next you would place a sugar cube on top of the spoon, water was then dripped onto the sugar cube and thus into the absinthe. At the begginning of the 20th century, absinthe was made illegal because of its hallucingenic properties. We have two spoons and two glasses of this design available.
