Late Victorian Silver Plated Cake Server or Slice
During the Victorian and Edwardian era, dinner parties were a fashionable pastime, ladies in society would compete with each other for the best dressed table, this brought about an increase in the manufacture of items to be used at the table. One of these things would be silver and silver plated cutlery to serve the food. All manner of tools were used, from asparagus tongs to ornate serving forks and spoons, of every size and shape.
This is a sliver plated cake server with an embossed and engraved handle. This would be in the home of a middle to high income family or in a high street establishment such as a tea rooms or hotel.
The silver plate is in good condition with no ware. There are some very fine scratches which is often the case with silver plated items as they are continually polished over the decades, but this does not detract from its overall appearance.
