Late Victorian Pewter Oil Lamp

Late Victorian Pewter Oil Lamp

SKU: RJ00588
£40.00Price

During the late 19th and early 20th century houses were lit with candles or oil lamps. The lamps would come in all grades from a cheap utility metal lamp, to elaborate silver or gilt lamp with ornate cut and painted globular shades.

From the seventeenth century onwards, there was scarcely a household in Britain that did not possess some items of pewter: plates, bowls, tankards, spoons, candlesticks were just some of the everyday items made from pewter.

This is a pewter oil lamp with a clear glass chimney, and an adjustable wick.

The lamp is in good condition, the glass chimney has chips to the very top.

Dimensions: 43cm x 10cm
