Victorian Mother of Pearl Handled Cake Knife

During the Victorian times it was popular for ladies of society to entertain guests for afternoon tea. This would require an elaborate display of silverware and china, with an intent to impress. The practice of elaborate afternoon tea carried on well into the 20th century.
 
This is a silver plated cake knife with a fine engraved blade, and a polished mother of pearl handle. One side of the blade has a serrated edge to cut fruit cake, and the opposite side of the blade is smooth to cut a softer cake such as Victoria sponge.
 
In good condition with no ware to the silver plate and no damage to the mother of pearl.
