In the Victorian period companies such as Lawyers, bankers, solicitors etc would all have there own company stamp, when sending correspondence the letter would be placed between the clamping bars and the handle pressed down, this would leave an impressed seal on the paper. ( see close up photo)
This stamp is very heavy and made from cast iron with a hand painted gilt decoration.
Because of the weight these stamps make great door stops.
condition is good with some minor loss to the gilding.
