Hot water urns, also known as samovars, were typically found in large country house kitchens, tea rooms and/or at events where they would be filled with water, bought close to a boil being sat over a flame so that hot water could be dispensed on demand. In a large country house kitchen the cook would use this to supply hot water for sauces, vegetables, soups etc. 

This particular hot water urn is of a particularly impressive size and the spout is unusually long/large - a real rarity and suitable for a particularly well equipped kitchen.

This samovar is 52cm high (inc. swing handle) with a top diameter of 35cm and the measurement from the back of the samovar to the tip of the tap is 50cm
