Cased cutlery sets were commonly given as presents, particularly wedding presents with the silver cutlery and finer pieces brought out for special occasions or Sunday best. 
 
This is a cased set of twelve silver plated teaspoons and a pair of tongs all with elaborately designed Rococo handles, very typical of the Victorian style.  They come presented in a wonderfully over-the-top velvet and silk presentation case. This set would have been owned by a reasonably wealthy household. 
 
The condition is good, the plate is in excellent condition, there are some minor scuffs to the corners of the case.  Case closes well.
