A stationery or letter rack was an important part of any desk throughout the 19th century and into the first half of the 20th century.

 

This is a good sized oak stationery rack, used on a desk to store envelopes and writing paper. It is an unusual design with a retracable lid which can be stored in one of the leaves the rack.It is made from dark oak and has a beaded design to the edge. It would have been used in a middle income household.

 

There are no splits or cracks to the wood.
