Late Victorian Sycamore Breadboard

Late Victorian Sycamore Breadboard

SKU: RJ01545
£22.00Price

Breadboards were a popular kitchen item in the 19th and 20th century. The most popular type of wood was sycamore, used for its antibacteral qualities. The fashion on the round boards was to have a moto carved around the top edge of this board, sometimes this would just say" Bread "or "Bless this house", in other examples the boards would be used to advertise a bread company such as Allinsons.

This is a well worn, sycamore bread board with a faded wheat sheath carved to the one edge. It would have been found in a middle income home.
