One of the 'Four Great Inventions' from Ancient China, the compass dates back to the Han Dynasty (c.206 BC). While it wasnt until c1190 that the compass was first thought to have been used in Western Europe and the Islamic worlds. 

 

This is a mid 20th century pocket compass in a brass case with a needle securing device. Made in West Germany.

 

In good working condition.
