Edwardian Cut Glass Claret Jug With Silver Plated Fittings

Edwardian Cut Glass Claret Jug With Silver Plated Fittings

SKU: RJ00871
£100.00Price

Until the 1670s, wine was served at the table in jug or green glass bottle. The decanter started to appear after 1670 and usually took a jug form, it wasn't until the middle of the 1700s that decanters were seen in a form we are more familiar with now.

This is a good quality Claret jug with silver plated fittings. The glass body of the decanter is panel cut with a hatch design running around the centre of the body, even the underneath is decorated with a star cut design. This would have been used in a wealthy household.

Condition is good to both the silver plate and the glass.

Dimensions : 39cm high x 15 cm
