The first terrestial globe is thought to have been in the mid 2nd Century BC, and have been used by scholars right through the centuries. Each globe is a fabulous little piece of history as it marks the changing world as countrys and borders changed with conflicts and treaties. During the 19th century and first quarter of the 20th century the globe was constrcted as a plaster sphere which had printed paper laid upon it.

 

This small desk globe is a plaster shpere with printed paper gores. On an Art Deco chrome base.

 

Made by E. Bertaux, Editeur. Paris

 

Some small marks and an old restoration which is shown in the pictures.
