This is a good size veneered walnut Victorian Writing box with fine panels of inlaid exotic woods, with a central brass cartouche and brass escutcheon.
 
This style of box wood be used as a travelling writing box, frequently used at the time for correspondence when travelling for buisness or pleasure.
 
Condition is good with very minor marks and fine splits comensurate with age. The inside has the original velvet which has some ink stains. There is no key.
