In the 18th and 19 th century most homes would have a bible. The wealthier homes would have a large family bible.
 
This is a large family bible with a tooled and gilded leather cover, and a brass clasp. The bible contains both the old and the new testaments, and was printed by George E Eyre and William Spottiswoode , printers to Queen Victoria. the Bible has several illustrations including coloured plates of maps.
 
The condition is good with minors scruffs to the leather and some age spotting to the paper.
