In the 18th and 19th century, most wealthy houses would own at least one tea caddy. As tea was an expensive commodity, it would often be kept in a fine cadyy made from several different materials such as brass, wood, silver or silver plate.

 

A brass tea caddy and lid with embossed decoration throughout.This caddy has an inner lid to weight the tea down.it sits upon 4 brass bun feet.
