A general part of any proffessional person's apparel would be a good clothes brush. During the 19th century and well into the 20th century clothes would not be laundered as frequently as we do today, therefore you would need to brush your clothes on a daily basic in order to keep smart. Given that everybody used coal and wood burning fires, clothes would collect a lot more dust and grime than they do now. 
 
This is a smart double-sided clothes brush from the 1920s, and would have been used in a professional household or office.
