The first terrestial globe is thought to have been in the mid 2nd Century BC, and have been used by scholars right through the centuries. Each globe is a fabulous little piece of history as it marks the changing world as countrys and borders changed with conflicts and treaties. During the 19th century and first quarter of the 20th century the globe was constrcted as a plaster sphere which had printed paper laid upon it.

This small desk globe is French and depicticts the Russian Revolution, so pre dates 1918.  It is on its original oak stand.

The condition of the sphere is reasonably good with only one tiny dinge, as seen the photographs. The metal frame joining the shere to the base is all intact with remnants of the original gilding. The base is in good condition with no cracks or splits.
