Hip flasks became popular in the 19th century when it was the fashion for gentlemen and some ladies to enjoy the great outdoors. They would be carried in the pocket to shooting parties and other sporting events such as horse racing. 

 

This is a leather covered hip flask with a screw cap and a pewter top, this doubles as a drinkig cup.It would have been owned by a man of average income such as a game keeper or groundsman, as the wealthier would generally sport a silver flask.

 

The glass flask is in good condition, as is the leather case, which has all its stiching in place. The pewter cup has no splits but does have a few minor dinges.
