Victorian Chatelaine Clip with Spectacle Case
Chatelaine clips date back to the Roman times, and were very popular during the 19th century. The clip was hinged to enable it to hook onto a belt from the waist with a series of chains hanging from it. Each chain would be mounted with useful houshold items such as scissors, watches, thimbles, spectacles and keys.
This is a Victorian chatelain clip holding a spectacle case, the body of the case is silver plated in a repousee design, velvet lined to protect the glasses.
The spectacle case is in very good condition, the chatelain clip has a little wear to the silver plate as this would have been handled more frequently.
