These large, skimming tools were used in all kitchens (though the material would vary from iron through to brass or copper) and were used for skimming vegetables etc. from large cooking pots.
 
A large brass skimmer with brass rivets to the bowl. The hand wrought handle is looped at the end to allow this tool to be hung on the wall or rack. This is an unusual shape with a wide scoop and an elaborate handle. This would have been used a wealthy household.
