Victorian Art Nouveau Claret Jug/Decanter

Victorian Art Nouveau Claret Jug/Decanter

SKU: RJ00757
£195.00Price

Until the 1670s, wine was served at the table in jug or green glass bottle. The decanter started to appear after 1670 and usually took a jug form, it wasn't until the middle of the 1700s that decanters were seen in a form we are more familiar with now.

This is a heavily cut Victorian claret jug with silver plated fittings, the cap and the foot are both decorated in a high relief Art Nouveau design. The body of the claret jug has been hand-cut with panelled shoulders, and a thumb cut and checker design to the base.

The condition is very good with no chips or cracks to the glass, the silver plate has no wear.

Dimensions: 30cm x 16cm
