A Georgian Pewter Tobacco Box

A Georgian Pewter Tobacco Box

SKU: RJ00753
£50.00Price

From the seventeenth century onwards, there was scarcely a household in Britain that did not possess some items of pewter: plates, bowls, tankards, spoons, candlesticks were just some of the everyday items made from pewter.

This is an early 19th century pewter tobbaco tin, at this period, a great majority of men and some women would smoke tobacco, so each household would have a receptacle to keep the tobacco in. This is a cylindrical box with a lid to keep the tobacco fresh. This would be found in most households of the day, except the very poorest.

Condition is good with just a couple of very tiny nibbles to the edge of the box

Dimensions: 12cm x 9.5cm
