This type of silver plated basket was popular during the late 19th century and early 20th century for serving bread or cakes at the dining table, it would also be used to display fruit on a side table.
 
This is a silver plated basket with a pierced decoration and footed base finished with a swing handle. It would have been found in a middle to high income family.
 
The silver plate is in very good condition and there are no splits of dings to the basket.
