A Pair of Early 20th Century Oak Barley Twist Candlesticks
Candlesticks and candelabra would have been used throughout the house as lighting in every room. They would adorn various places in the house, including dining tables during mealtimes, mantlepieces throughout the evenings, and bedsides at night. They came in various shapes and sizes and were made from a variety of materials including wood, brass, silver and silver plate.
This is a pair of oak barley twist candlesticks from the beginning of the 20th century. The turned barley twist became a very popular design at the end of the 19th and first quarter of the 20th century. This design was used extensilvly on furniture such as tables, chairs and cupboards as well as small pieces like candlesticks and bowls. They have brass sconses to hold the candle, and a turned oak base. These candlesticks would have been in the home of a middle income family.
Condition is good with no splits or breaks
