Late Victorian Wash Basin and Jug

Late Victorian Wash Basin and Jug

SKU: RJ00573
£85.00Price

With the beginning of the 19th century and the expansion of ideals of personal cleanliness, the washstand grew in size and importance.  A wash basin and water pitcher would originally have stood on a wooden stand, and been set in the bed chamber. In the first quarter of the 20th century, the wooden top of the washstand was replaced by marble.

This is a fine example of a late Victorian wash basin and pitcher.  This pitcher and bowl was made for Harrods.  Only the very wealthy would have shopped at Harrods; London's most upmarket department store.
