From the middle of the 19th century, when we were in the midst of the Industrial Revolution, many silversmiths set up premises in Birmingham and Sheffield, producing electroplated cutlery. It was the fashion in the Victorian era to have vast sets of cutlery for everyday use and special occasions. The best pieces being used for afternoon teas and dinner parties.

This is a large service of 60 silver plated pieces of cutlery, for a 12 piece place setting. This design was in production from the end of the Victorian period until fairly recently. The difference between this service of the 1920s, and a Victorian service, would only be in the material of the knife blades. Before the invention of stainless steel in 1913 all dinner knives would have a polished steel blade making it prone to rust.

This service comprises:
12 Large dinner knives
12 Large dinner forks
12 Small knives
12 Small forks
12 Spoons

All are in good condition with no ware to the silver plate.
