Late Victorian Artist’s Box
This is an wooden artist's case containing a paint pallette and brushes along with numerous files of pigment, these would be mixed by the artist with an oil-based compound to make his paints, a prefered method to purchasing tubes of premixed oils. The case is made from wood with a brass carrying handle and brass fittings. This type of box would be used by an artist for his or her outdoor painting and was very compact for an artists needs. It would have been the property of a reasonably wealthy person.
Condition throughout is good and box closes with ease, there are marks of paint on the box which would be expected.
