Large Victorian Marble Inkstand
Before the invention of the fountain pen all correspondence would be done using a dip pen and ink. Inkwells came in all shapes and sizes and for all pockets, from the humble stone bottle to the wonderfully ornate bronze and silver inkwells
Large marble Ink stand with gilded brass fittings. Lovely Quality polished marble with a carved groove into the base to rest your dip pen on. Sitting on turned brass bun feet. This was an impressive piece and would have been on the desk of a wealthy gentleman.
Overall good condition, no chips of cracks to the marble and hinge works well on the lid of the ink bottle.
